What is surge protection in LED power supply ?

In order to prevent the thunder stroke surge to disturb the LED lighting normal work, a lightning surge protection of a constant current power supply / constant voltage power supply power is designed, which is composed of GDT, MOV and TVS, according to the characteristics of lightning surges. And the lightning surge generator is used to test the protection performance of the circuit.

Hence The function of the surge protector is to limit the instantaneous over voltage of the incoming power line and the signal transmission line to the voltage range that the equipment or system can withstand, or to discharge a powerful lightning current into the ground to protect the protected equipment or system from the protection. All the non dimmable and dimmable led drivers from SMARTS are designed surge protection inside the designing solution. The withstand voltage we can do for the UL listed led driver is able to reach 2-3.75KV, and 1.5-2KV for non dimmable ac dc led power supply.    Eg: the withstand voltage of our class 2 UL phase cut dimming led driver 24v 60w ( model SMT-024-060VTH) is I/P-O/P:3.75KVAC.
